Karina Santillo, MA, LMFT is a licensed marriage and family therapist who is professionally prepared to work with a variety of clients. Karina’s education and training has included working with families in crisis, couples dealing with highly conflictual marital problems and individuals processing trauma and loss. For the past several years, Karina has been working within the mental health community through nonprofit organizations, family mental health centers and private practice. Karina is committed to the process of therapy. She has seen how, even in the worse of circumstances, the human spirit has a desire to rise above the challenges of life to find tranquility and balance.
Karina Santillo, born and raised in Southern California, received her Bachelor’s Degree from UCLA. Karina returned to earn her Master’s Degree in Psychology from Phillips Graduate Institute in 2012 after devoting her time as a business owner, wife and mother. As a result of resolving challenging issues in her own life, Karina was inspired to help others. As a graduate student at PGI, she focused on Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in Latino Family Therapy. As a bilingual therapist, Karina has been able to reach many for whom therapy has not always been available.
Karina’s extensive training involves an emphasis on Family Systems Theory, which enables the therapist to see the individual within the context of a whole. Family history and culture provide insight into how a person may react and manage their personal issues. In addition, Karina uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which provides the client with direct strategies to modify behaviors by working with thought patterns. Karina also utilizes Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Therapy. A theory which uses mindfulness practices to help clients appreciate and find peace in the here and now.
Karina believes in working with her clients collaboratively and compassionately. She looks forward to working with you as she continues on her own path of seeking truth and knowledge.
